Item 2.02 Results of Operations and Financial Condition
On July 22, 2024, AGNC Investment Corp. issued a press release announcing its financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2024. The text of the aforementioned press release is included as exhibit 99.1 to this Form 8-K. The press release included the following financial information for the quarter:
•Total comprehensive loss for the second quarter of 2024 of $(0.13) per share of common stock, comprised of $(0.11) net loss per common share and $(0.02) other comprehensive loss (“OCI”) per common share on investments marked-to-market through OCI;
•Tangible net book value of $8.40 per share of common stock as of June 30, 2024, which amount excludes $526 million, or $0.69 per common share, of goodwill as of June 30, 2024;
•$66.0 billion fair value of its investment portfolio as of June 30, 2024, inclusive of net forward purchases and sales of Agency mortgage-backed securities, in the “to-be-announced” (“TBA”) market;
•Tangible net book value “at risk” leverage ratio was 7.4x as of June 30, 2024. Tangible net book value “at risk” leverage represents the ratio of the amount outstanding under its investment securities’ repurchase agreements, debt of consolidated variable interest entities, net TBA position (at cost) and net receivable / payable for unsettled investment securities outstanding to the sum of total stockholders’ equity adjusted to exclude goodwill as of period end (repurchase agreements used to fund U.S. Treasury securities are excluded from the Company’s leverage measurement);
•Economic return on tangible common equity of -0.9% for the second quarter, comprised of $0.36 dividend per share of common stock declared during the second quarter and $(0.44) decrease in tangible net book value per common share;
•Cash and unencumbered Agency MBS of $5.3 billion as of June 30, 2024; and
•Issued 45.8 million shares of common equity through At-the-Market Offerings for net proceeds of $434 million.
