Under the influence of the global coronavirus epidemic, DIA did not reduce the quality of awards and the number of entries, instead of handing in a good report card. This year, the competition received a total of 7369 entries. Among which, 31% were from enterprises and design companies, added 210 comparing with which of last year. Applicants from 500 Fortune such as Alibaba, Honeywell, Fujitsu, Sony, JD, Baidu, Xiaomi and HIKVISION showed great enthusiasm in DIA. With the participation of four newly joined countries including Costa Rica, Egypt, Iran and Bangladesh, the number of participating countries and regions has reached 60 so far.

“DIA has been bearing in mind with humanity care and social responsibility since its birth. We are constantly thinking about what else can design bring to the world in addition to economic value in the wave of consumerism.” Secretary-General James Wang said, he put out that many previous DIA award-winning works had been applied to the anti-epidemic battle since the epidemic broke out, such as unmanned logistics, digital tools, and business automation, etc., playing a central role in the resumption of production.

This year DIA adopted a dual-zone system to face the impact of the coronavirus epidemic. For some overseas areas that heavily-affected by the epidemic, DIA specially set up "sub-competition arena" in UK, Italy, Japan and France to organize entry collection, evaluation and DIA promotion. Benefited from the establishment of DIA’s international network over the years, DIA has continued to attract international design innovation talents for five consecutive years. The overseas experts directly contacted or invited from design universities, manufacturing companies, and design media reached more than 500 experts from nearly 30 countries and regions.
