WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The following is a statement from Robert Silberman, Executive Chairman, Strategic Education, Inc.:

Today the Jack Welch Management Institute, and indeed the whole world, lost a great mentor, a true business legend and an extraordinary human being. Over 10 years ago, Jack Welch had the vision to transform business education, uniting his unmatched track record of business success, enormous love of people, fierce passion for winning and unbridled desire to improve the world using his proven management canon. Today, his vision shines on in over 2,000 students, 2,000 alumni, and 150 faculty and staff of the Jack Welch Management Institute at Strayer University.

Many of us had the pleasure of working side-by-side with Jack over the past decade to build this school. We were privileged to learn from one of the best business minds of the last century. Jack is far more than JWMI’s namesake. His principles and people management practices define our school. From the beginning, his challenge was clear - have a distinct value proposition, be customer-centric, have a singular focus, create content that is practical and applicable, and deliver returns for our students. And, most importantly, have fun.

JWMI was Jack’s passion and now, his legacy. He loved meeting with students. He cheered the stories of raises, promotions and professional achievement. He challenged faculty and staff to treat students like customers, and put their success at the center of everything we do. He gave straight, candid feedback but always treated people with dignity. He wanted everyone to “win” - with our teams, in our personal lives, and our communities. And most importantly, Jack expressed a deep appreciation for all those working to make the JWMI community great. Jack loved JWMI, and it showed in everything he did.

There are really no adequate words to describe our collective loss. However I am 100% confident that Jack’s teachings, mentorship and friendship will not only keep us going, but will live on in the success of his students. Both his students today, and those who are yet to come.
