SPAR Group Limited (JSE:SPP) is a warehousing and distribution business striving to provide its independent retailers and their customers with the freshest produce and highest quality merchandise at the right price, every day.
The SPAR Group Ltd (SPAR) operates mainly in South Africa, Ireland and Switzerland. The company serves a network of independent retailers who trade under its brands and are supplied through the company's distribution centres on a voluntary basis.
The company is a member of SPAR International which granted SPAR its South African licence in 1963. This has grown to include several country licences for the SPAR retail brand. Today, the company services 17 kinds of store formats in 14 countries, each with their network of distribution centres.
Of SPAR's turnover, 32.1% is generated in foreign currency. The company has significant operations in South Africa, Ireland (which includes South West England) and Switzerland, with smaller business interests in Sri Lanka and Zambia. The company owns SPAR licences for Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and Angola, serviced through its South African distribution centres.
