African Rainbow Minerals (JSE:ARI) is a leading South African diversified mining and minerals company with long-life, low unit cost operations. ARM mines and beneficiates iron ore, manganese ore, chrome ore, platinum group metals (PGMs), nickel and coal. ARM also produces manganese and chrome alloys, and has an investment in gold through its shareholding in Harmony.

ARM Platinum
The ARM Platinum division comprises three operating mines: Modikwa, Two Rivers and Nkomati.
ARM Ferrous
ARM’s ferrous metals interests are held through wholly owned ARM Ferrous which owns 50% of Assmang (Pty) Ltd, a long-established miner and processor of metals for the world’s steel industries. The other 50% of Assmang is held by Assore Ltd. Assmang’s operating divisions are based on its two principal commodities: iron ore and manganese ore.
ARM Coal
ARM Coal was formed in July 2006 in partnership with global diversified mining group Xstrata Coal South Africa, who later merged to form Glencore. The joint venture includes an economic interest of 20.2% in certain Glencore Operations in South Africa, Participating Coal Business (PCB) and a 26% attributable beneficial interest in Goedgevonden (GGV).
Gold: Harmony
Harmony Gold Mining Company Ltd operates and develops world-class gold assets in South Africa and Papua New Guinea (PNG) one of the world’s premier new gold-copper regions. With 69 years of experience, Harmony is currently South Africa’s largest gold producer. Harmony’s business activities cover the entire gold mining value chain – from exploring for prospects, conducting feasibility studies and developing, buying and operating mines, through to closing and rehabilitating mines at the end of their productive lives. While ARM owns 14.6% of Harmony’s issued share capital, Harmony is run separately by its own management team.
